                                                     Estuary Walk

We were very fortunate to be invited on a walk through the Pahurehure Estuary with the Senior Classes this week. This was part of our conservation topic. We learned a lot from the Seniors as they counted the wildlife that they saw and told us about the different types of plants. We had lots of fun exploring the boardwalk and spotting the crabs!

Letter of the day

Room 15's Letter of the day today was S
So we went in search of seahorses and found this amazing video about Pygmy Seahorses.
We hope you enjoy it.

What can we do with our old milk containers?
Room 15 are having a great time re-using many things that either end up being thrown away or sent to the recyclers.
Our topic of Our Own Backyard has helped us to see how much rubbish there is around our school and how some of it might end up in the estuary.

We decided to re use our milk containers and turn them into something useful.  We had to wash them and make sure they were properly dry because if we didn't they would have been really stinky. Then we joined them together into groups of four. They should be perfect to use as a pencil holder.

There were some really good photos in the magazines that we could use to decorate our pencil holders.

We had to take our time and make sure those pictures were glued on properly

Motorbikes were the pic of the day here...

Tada...
Now I get to take it home, but I have to leave the pencils at school.

By Room 15

This is Step 1 of creating something that shows what we now know about how rubbish can affect the oceans.  We are re-using rather than throwing away our rubbish.  Keep an eye out for Step 2 coming soon.

Can you guess what we are making?

Here is a hint...Turtles and whales eat these and sometimes they eat plastic bags instead,  thinking they are food.

Friday, 6 November 2020

Our topic this term is called In Our Own Backyard. Room 15 students are deep in discussion about what would happen to the life in the estuary if the rubbish in our school blew over the fence, across the road and into the water.

 The Lorax!

Our Topic this term is Conservation so we started learning about The Lorax this week. We've really enjoyed learning about this book and the children really comprehended the themes about saving the trees, keeping our water clean and thinking about preserving our planet!

Here are some examples of our lovely work we've completed this week. Our story as retold by Room 9 and our beautiful Truffula Trees....

Friday's Exploration Day!

On Friday mornings we have started a Friday Funday session for the Room 09 children. This Friday we had paint, glue, scissors, string and magical gloop! The gloop was a big hit and the Room 9 children were fascinated by it. It is solid matter when you pick it up and then melts in your hands as they warm it through.

 Money Wise

The children from Rooms 9 and 15 were treated to a fantastic performance by Mr Cashtastic last week from the ASB bank. The purpose of the visit was to teach the children how to save and how to keep their money safe. This was a great performance and we learned loads about saving!

Can you see Mr Potato?

Friday, 21 August 2020

I am super impressed with the story Ellise wrote about where she would most like to go. I agree that the carnival is a happy place.
Keep up the good work Ellise. I can't wait to see what else you have been doing at home.

Thursday 20th August

On Thursday Hayley read
with Mrs Andrews. Afterwards she drew and coloured in some very beautiful butterflies.
Hayley then followed the links on our planning page to get to Storyline Online and watched some video books. She watched Guji, Guji which is Mrs Andrews favourite online story.
